I feel like I have been the Hermit for the past few years, and the moon is a card I feel deeply connected to also.

But it also feels like I have the energy around me to step out of this “phase”, using 2025 to tie up lose ends and make a few final goodbyes (to habits, people, places, thoughts etc…) and step out with a clean slate to create a whole new chapter. One where I know myself better than I ever have, and I’m more connect to my intuition that I ever believed was possible. ✨🌈💙🙏🏻

That is so fitting because I also read about the Universal 9 Year, and it seems that 9s in general bring about the end of a phase, so there will be a final release this year of all those things and people and situations that are no longer aligned with us. The Hermit energy will help you determine what all of that is, once and for all. So this is a good wrap-up year and ending of a cycle that you've experienced the last nine years!

Yes I am totally feeling this.

Wow this is fascinating! My number is 13 which seems to be Death—this could be another year of letting go?

Hi Michelle! I'm glad you find it as fascinating as I do! Yes, this year will be about release and also great transformation. Your secondary card would be card 4, which is the Emperor. The Emperor is a call to leadership, to take responsibility over your life and situation--and to feel empowered to do so, because you have all the knowledge and experience you need! It's time to be the leader of your own life: Go after whatever it is you've been dreaming about, and don't be afraid to release or let go of anything that doesn't serve you or your desires. Make plans and be strategic as you go about making these changes. Here are some prompts for you:

What thoughts, situations, or relationships do I feel need to be released or need to undergo major shifts in 2025 in order for them to be in alignment with who I am now? How can I go about making these changes with kindness and confidence?

How do I hope to emerge from 2025 transformed? How do I hope to feel at the end of the year?

How can I step into a leadership role in my life (and in the situations I encounter) as I navigate change and transformation this year?

How am I uniquely qualified to be the leader of my own life?

My personal card of the year is the Lovers.

Expand full comment

Hi Caitlin! This was my card last year, with my secondary being the Devil. You will be diving deep this year into love and connection—what that means to you, how you express it, how you can act from a space of love—and you’ll be conquering those tricky blocks that sometimes lead you to act out of alignment with love and your personal values. So be on the lookout for where you might be self-sabotaging or getting distracted/tempted off your path to living in full alignment with love and your values. It sounds challenging, but there’s a lot of beauty in it, and you’ll gain so much wisdom!

Here are some prompts for the Lovers and the Devil:

How can I choose love more in 2025? How can I make love and connection a greater priority, and not just for consideration of the bigger picture, but in my day-to-day life?

What often tempts me to veer off the path of love and act out of alignment with my true values? How can I support myself in staying on the path?

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience. I’ll definitely use the prompts you shared in my next journaling session. Thanks!

I'd love some journal prompts. I am in a 3 year. I think that's the Empress card.

Thank you so much! xo

Hi Dorena! Oh the Empress, how lovely! That means your secondary card is card 12, the Hanged Man. So to me this indicates you’re entering a year of slowness and deep nurturing and nourishment (which also lines up pretty well with the a hermit). The Empress is linked to the divine feminine, Mother Earth, birthing (babies, projects, relationships, or ideas), creativity, and abundance. The Hanged Man encourages you to pause, be patient, surrender to the process, and look at things from a new perspective. Here are some prompts for you:

How can I better nurture myself and others this year?

What do I feel I am ready to create or birth this year, and how can I tend to that with deep love, devotion, and care?

How can slowing down and looking at my life (or situations within my life) from a new perspective benefit me? What gifts might this give me?

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense. 2025 is the year that I finally decided to write the book I've been talking about forever. And self nurturing has been a growing theme in my life for sure!

Oh wow, what a wonderful fit for your year and how exiting! Definitely would love to hear updates as you go along.

If you have a Tarot deck, maybe you could keep the Empress card out while you write, for a little boost. Or just have a digital image of it that you could pull up!

I’m in a 9 year. ☺️

Expand full comment

Wow, so if it is also a 9 year for you personally, this makes that energy extra strong! Since I already had some general prompts above for the Hermit, here's some extra ones based on what you've been experiencing:

What cycle do I feel is coming to a natural end this year, and how can I begin to release this? What loose ends do I feel called to tie up?

What needs to be released in order for me to clearly hear my own guidance?

How will my time spent in reflection, and the wisdom that comes from it, help the collective?

This is so kind of you, thank you. I have screenshot them to return to. 🙏🏻✨🥰

I love this Marcy. My personal number is also 7. I did a card pull and journaled yesterday and the themes were peace and gentleness. Taking my foot off the gas and allowing space for my healing to land. To do as I please and prioritise my needs and wants. It’s all aligned with what you are saying here. 👏🏻👏🏻 thank you 🙏🏻

Expand full comment

Absolutely, that is very much aligned! I love that we both are working with Chariot energy this year, and will be asked to stay true to what we really value. I have been struggling so much with that that it makes sense this is going to be my biggest theme. Here are some journal prompts I came up with for those of us working with the Chariot and the Tower:

What truth, belief, or value do I want to stay true to this year? What do I truly want to light my path forward, and how can I show my commitment and devotion to this?

What helps me believe in myself, even in the face of the greatest of obstacles?

Just getting around to pondering this. Thanks for the formula for calculating number of tarot card for the year. Mine is 5 - high priestess, which interestingly enough was the first card I drew from a new tarot deck I recently purchased. To me it’s a reminder to acknowledge and embrace my power within as an older woman and to stop playing small.

Expand full comment

Hi Julie! Before giving you some prompts, I want to double check—did you mean to say your number was 5, or is it 2? Because 5 is the Hierophant, while number 2 is High Priestess. Just want to make sure I give you prompts for the right one!

Expand full comment

It is 5, Hierophant, which one source said is the equivalent to High Priestess. Thanks for your insights on this!

Expand full comment

Ahhhh okay, that's because it is also sometimes considered the "High Priest" and so it is the male equivalent to the High Priestess. I think the easiest way to describe it is that the High Priestess is about following your intuition and strengthening your connection the the spiritual world, while the Hierophant is more about building upon an established structure or studying the guidelines/beliefs/principles of an established spiritual organization or teacher/mentor. Both though are about diving deeper into the spiritual, so consider that a big theme for you this year!

This will be a year to study and learn and perhaps seek out a mentor or group to work with to help you in your spiritual studies and growth. Your secondary card would be card 14, which is Temperance. So remember to seek balance within your studies, and that includes striking a balance between utilizing outside sources and your own inner knowledge and intuition. Explore and learn all that you can about all sides of an idea or theory so that you can find a nice middle ground of understanding!

Here are some prompts for you to help you explore these themes:

What am I most curious about or excited to explore in greater depth this year, especially when it comes to my spiritual life/world?

What sources can help me learn more about this? (Is there an organization, teacher, mentor, or group I can work with that I trust?)

How can I weave this new knowledge I'll be gaining with my own knowledge, the knowledge that I have as a soul and that I've gained from life experience? How can it enhance the knowledge, skills, and talents I already have?

There is so much to love about this post Marcy! The Hermit feels really good for me in general this year, but I think my personal card is 11 which is Justice? (7+31+2025) Would love to hear your wisdom! Thank you.

Expand full comment

Hi Marisa! So glad you liked this post! It seems to be one of my most popular ones, so definitely will keep talking about these themes this year.

Ahh Justice, what a great card. This would make your secondary card the High Priestess (1+1=2). This is a year of coming to truly know and understand your values and living by them. It’s a year to be true to yourself, to be honest with yourself—and know that if you are doing that, you can’t go wrong. The High Priestess reinforces the need to listen to and honor your intuition and honor your connection to the spiritual world, likely part of your values. Again, just like with the Hermit, there’s an invitation and calling to listen to the wisdom of your soul.

Here’s a few journal prompts for you:

What would it look like for me to live my values this year, each and every day?

How can I advocate for justice within my community this year?

What practices can I incorporate to help me regularly tap into my intuition and tend to my spiritual life?

Thank you for such a fulsome response Marcy! This makes SO much sense and is already very aligned with where I am at right now. Thanks again and look forward to further conversations. Have a great day, Marisa 🙏

Hi Marcy, thanks for the inspiration for 2025. The Hermit card resonates with me a lot and my intention for 2025 is to dive deeper into my soul and study. My personal card is #8 and as a complementary card #17. Thank you so much🙏

Expand full comment

Ohh what a great combo for 2025! So you would be Strength for the primary and Star for the secondary. (Some decks say card 8 is Justice, but I'm going off Rider Waite.) So this a year of calling on your inner strength to bring about hope and healing for yourself and those around you. How beautiful! Here are some prompts for you:

What will help me nurture my inner strength this year?

How can I demonstrate hope, faith, and resilience? (Perhaps consider past examples when you felt you demonstrated or worked with your inner strength and how this gave you hope in a difficult time.)

What ignites my inner strength, and how might I call upon it to bring about personal healing? How might it help heal the collective?

Marcy - you make tarot cards so approachable and easy to connect with! I am really loving your content when you share about tarot cards. My personal number is 4, which seems to be the Emperor card. My word or focus this year is SHE-led, which so perfectly compliments the Hermit card. I'm excited to do some personal journaling to dive into these themes!

Amanda, I love that the Emperor is your card this year! I think of the post you wrote for SJS and what I learned from and about you in that story, and the energy of the Emperor fits so well. And your secondary card would be number 13, Death (aka transformation), so I feel like stepping into leadership will lead you to great transformation and you being a leader will bring great transformation for others. Here’s some prompts for you:

How can I embrace a leadership role within my own life this year? And how can I serve as a loyal, kind leader to others?

What wisdom do I uniquely hold that can help others navigate change or transformation? How can my inner wisdom help me calmly and confidently navigate change in my own life?

Love this- really fascinating! My card this year is The Lovers (6), and secondary, The Devil (15). Love some journal prompts 🙏🏼❤️

Hi Lauren! These two cards were mine last year, so I am very familiar with them! When I first discovered those were my cards, I was confused, but as I looked back on my year, they made perfect sense. For you, this year as in invitation to connect with and act in alignment with love and with your true core values or guiding principles. The Devil is the temptation off that path, so this is the year to spot those temptations or self-sabotaging behaviors and patterns and choose love and connection for yourself and others.

Here are some prompts for you:

How can I choose love more in 2025? How can I make love and connection a greater priority, and not just for consideration of the bigger picture, but in my day-to-day life?

What often tempts me to veer off the path of love and act out of alignment with my true values? How can I support myself in staying on the path?
