Hi Jaime! Sorry for my delayed reply! The Devil card was the card I had for 2024, so I’m quite familiar with it. Your secondary card is 6, which is the Lovers. So this is a year of confronting and releasing inner fears or subconscious beliefs. It’s also a good time to recognize when you might be getting distracted or pulled off course, acting out of alignment with your values or intentions. And what will help you with this is acting with love toward yourself and others. It’s a good time to create a more loving relationship with yourself!

Some prompts for you: What subconscious beliefs, patterns, stories or mindsets have traditionally held me back? How can I begin to acknowledge and release these this year, as they come up? How can I show love to myself as I let these go?

Hi Laura! Sorry for my delayed reply. What a great card for the year—the Magician! It’s all about manifestation and alchemy. It’s likely you’ll bring an inspired idea to life this year or make significant progress in building what you’ve dreamed of. And your secondary card is card 10, the Wheel of Fortune, which is all about the cycles of life, good fortune, and luck. Embrace all the ups and downs the year brings, using your resources and tools as the magician to navigate them and make the most of each opportunity.

Your prompts: Where am I ready to work my magic this year? What are the magical tools (skills, personal qualities, resources, etc) I already hold that can help me navigate challenges and also seize any opportunities that come my way?

Thank you Marcy - I loved that even though numbers are not my bag - (I am dyscalculic) every combination returned to 9 - that was so cool! With my secondary card at 7

Hi Kat! How lovely to have card 9 (The Hermit) as your personal card during the Year of the Hermit! That means this message of connecting to and following your inner wisdom is extra potent for you. Your secondary card in this case would be card 18, which is the Moon (and also the secondary card for this year overall).

But since you brought up card number 7, the Chariot, I believe that is significant and one you are meant to work with, even if it is not the official secondary card! Based on these three together, this indicates a year of deep inner reflection that strengthens you as an individual. It will be important to take action on the wisdom and guidance you get from within, remaining devoted to listening to that voice and committing to whatever it calls you toward. If the calling is to heal or release something, listen. If the call is to take action on an inspired idea, listen.

Here's a couple prompts for you to explore: What doors would my inner wisdom like me to open this year?

How can deep self-reflection and working with my intuition give me the strength to move through these?

Hi Jiling! Ah, card 11 is Justice. This would make your secondary card the High Priestess.

Justice is not just all about law and order, but acting in accordance with our personal values. So this is a good year to clearly define and understand your values, and explore what living by them looks like. Know that when you are true to yourself and honest with yourself, you can't make a wrong decision. And the High Priestess reinforces the need to listen to and honor your intuition in this process, as well as honor your connection to Spirit. This will help you in staying true to yourself and aligned with your values. Much like with the Hermit, this is an invitation to listen to the wisdom of your Soul, and let go of any pressure from outside of you to act out of alignment with your own guidance.

Here’s a few journal prompts for you:

What would it look like for me to live my values this year? Are there any practices or rituals that could help me with this?

How can I build greater trust with myself and the spirit world so I can listen to and follow their guidance?

Thank you Marcy. Are there any decks for beginners?

Marcy Farrey 🧚‍♀️'s avatar

Ohhh yes definitely check it out! It’s funny, after I responded to you, I saw someone post a picture of what looked to be a Rider Waite Tarot deck for beginners that had the keywords on each card. So apparently that exists, if you’re interested! I wasn’t as drawn to the traditional decks so for me it was easier to start with a modern deck.

Marcy Farrey 🧚‍♀️'s avatar

I didn't use any decks that were specifically for beginners, but there are certainly ones I think are more beginner-friendly. For me, I started with the Mystic Mondays Tarot by Grace Duong, and I still love it. The modern imagery resonated with me. Another fantastic one I discovered later but think would be great to start with is The Light Seer's Tarot by Chris-Anne.

There are also some decks out there that put a few keywords directly on the card, and that can be helpful for a beginner, but they also do a different take on the suits and naming of the cards (which could get confusing if you want to learn traditional Tarot first, but nonetheless helpful in learning overall themes). If that appeals to you, you could start with one of the decks from Radleigh Valentine. He does Angel and Fairy Tarot as a more gentle approach to the cards.

Ultimately the best thing to do is pick one that has imagery or an overarching theme that resonates with you, as that will be the first point of connection when you're learning!

If you'd like to try a Soul Prompt, perhaps after meditation, sit and ask, "Soul, why are you calling me to journey within at this time? Why is this needed right now?"

Hi Elle! So cool to meet another person who shares the March 13 birthday, I love it!

So we are both working with that Chariot energy this year. It’s going to call on us to stay true to what we really value, and to keep that in mind always as we pursue our big dreams and goals. And with the Tower, we have to remember to use these values to guide us even in the face of big shifts or changes. These will help us build our strength and determination.

Here are some journal prompts I came up with for those of us working with the Chariot and the Tower:

What truth, belief, or value do I want to stay true to this year? What do I truly want to light my path forward, and how can I show my commitment and devotion to this?

What helps me believe in myself, even in the face of the greatest of obstacles?

My card of the year is Lovers - which is so funny and aligns so well! We're getting married this year 😍

Marcy Farrey 🧚‍♀️'s avatar

Hi Bri! I was mentioning to someone else on this thread that this was my card last year, with my secondary being the Devil, so I am very familiar with the energy! And yes, how perfect that you are getting married this year because, as you probably guessed, this year will be about love and connection for you. You'll be exploring what it means to you to be in a harmonious partnership, how you best express love, and how you can act from a space of love in your day-to-day life. And with the secondary card being the Devil, you’ll be conquering those blocks that can lead you to act out of alignment with love and your personal values. Watch for any areas where you might be self-sabotaging or getting distracted/tempted off your path to living in full alignment with love and your values.

I speak from personal experience when I say you will gain SO MUCH insight this year!

Here are some prompts for the Lovers and the Devil:

How can I act and make decisions more deliberately from a place of love this year? How can I make love and connection a greater priority for me?

What often tempts me to veer off the path of love and act out of alignment with my true values? How can I support myself in staying on the path?

Just getting around to pondering this. Thanks for the formula for calculating number of tarot card for the year. Mine is 5 - high priestess, which interestingly enough was the first card I drew from a new tarot deck I recently purchased. To me it’s a reminder to acknowledge and embrace my power within as an older woman and to stop playing small.

Expand full comment
Marcy Farrey 🧚‍♀️'s avatar

Hi Julie! Before giving you some prompts, I want to double check—did you mean to say your number was 5, or is it 2? Because 5 is the Hierophant, while number 2 is High Priestess. Just want to make sure I give you prompts for the right one!

Expand full comment
Julie Bradley's avatar

It is 5, Hierophant, which one source said is the equivalent to High Priestess. Thanks for your insights on this!

Expand full comment
Marcy Farrey 🧚‍♀️'s avatar

Ahhhh okay, that's because it is also sometimes considered the "High Priest" and so it is the male equivalent to the High Priestess. I think the easiest way to describe it is that the High Priestess is about following your intuition and strengthening your connection the the spiritual world, while the Hierophant is more about building upon an established structure or studying the guidelines/beliefs/principles of an established spiritual organization or teacher/mentor. Both though are about diving deeper into the spiritual, so consider that a big theme for you this year!

This will be a year to study and learn and perhaps seek out a mentor or group to work with to help you in your spiritual studies and growth. Your secondary card would be card 14, which is Temperance. So remember to seek balance within your studies, and that includes striking a balance between utilizing outside sources and your own inner knowledge and intuition. Explore and learn all that you can about all sides of an idea or theory so that you can find a nice middle ground of understanding!

Here are some prompts for you to help you explore these themes:

What am I most curious about or excited to explore in greater depth this year, especially when it comes to my spiritual life/world?

What sources can help me learn more about this? (Is there an organization, teacher, mentor, or group I can work with that I trust?)

How can I weave this new knowledge I'll be gaining with my own knowledge, the knowledge that I have as a soul and that I've gained from life experience? How can it enhance the knowledge, skills, and talents I already have?

Marcy Farrey 🧚‍♀️'s avatar

Hi Marisa! So glad you liked this post! It seems to be one of my most popular ones, so definitely will keep talking about these themes this year.

Ahh Justice, what a great card. This would make your secondary card the High Priestess (1+1=2). This is a year of coming to truly know and understand your values and living by them. It’s a year to be true to yourself, to be honest with yourself—and know that if you are doing that, you can’t go wrong. The High Priestess reinforces the need to listen to and honor your intuition and honor your connection to the spiritual world, likely part of your values. Again, just like with the Hermit, there’s an invitation and calling to listen to the wisdom of your soul.

Here’s a few journal prompts for you:

What would it look like for me to live my values this year, each and every day?

How can I advocate for justice within my community this year?

What practices can I incorporate to help me regularly tap into my intuition and tend to my spiritual life?

Hi Michelle! I'm glad you find it as fascinating as I do! Yes, this year will be about release and also great transformation. Your secondary card would be card 4, which is the Emperor. The Emperor is a call to leadership, to take responsibility over your life and situation--and to feel empowered to do so, because you have all the knowledge and experience you need! It's time to be the leader of your own life: Go after whatever it is you've been dreaming about, and don't be afraid to release or let go of anything that doesn't serve you or your desires. Make plans and be strategic as you go about making these changes. Here are some prompts for you:

What thoughts, situations, or relationships do I feel need to be released or need to undergo major shifts in 2025 in order for them to be in alignment with who I am now? How can I go about making these changes with kindness and confidence?

How do I hope to emerge from 2025 transformed? How do I hope to feel at the end of the year?

How can I step into a leadership role in my life (and in the situations I encounter) as I navigate change and transformation this year?

How am I uniquely qualified to be the leader of my own life?

Hi Dorena! Oh the Empress, how lovely! That means your secondary card is card 12, the Hanged Man. So to me this indicates you’re entering a year of slowness and deep nurturing and nourishment (which also lines up pretty well with the a hermit). The Empress is linked to the divine feminine, Mother Earth, birthing (babies, projects, relationships, or ideas), creativity, and abundance. The Hanged Man encourages you to pause, be patient, surrender to the process, and look at things from a new perspective. Here are some prompts for you:

How can I better nurture myself and others this year?

What do I feel I am ready to create or birth this year, and how can I tend to that with deep love, devotion, and care?

How can slowing down and looking at my life (or situations within my life) from a new perspective benefit me? What gifts might this give me?

What will help me nurture my inner strength this year?

How can I demonstrate hope, faith, and resilience? (Perhaps consider past examples when you felt you demonstrated or worked with your inner strength and how this gave you hope in a difficult time.)

I feel like I have been the Hermit for the past few years, and the moon is a card I feel deeply connected to also.

But it also feels like I have the energy around me to step out of this “phase”, using 2025 to tie up lose ends and make a few final goodbyes (to habits, people, places, thoughts etc…) and step out with a clean slate to create a whole new chapter. One where I know myself better than I ever have, and I’m more connect to my intuition that I ever believed was possible. ✨🌈💙🙏🏻

Marcy Farrey 🧚‍♀️'s avatar

That is so fitting because I also read about the Universal 9 Year, and it seems that 9s in general bring about the end of a phase, so there will be a final release this year of all those things and people and situations that are no longer aligned with us. The Hermit energy will help you determine what all of that is, once and for all. So this is a good wrap-up year and ending of a cycle that you've experienced the last nine years!
