Bringing Hermit energy to 2025
Journal prompts for the Tarot card of the year + your Tarot card for 2025
Did you know that each year is tied to specific Tarot cards? You can tap into the energy of these cards to make the most of the year and its themes.
When I first learned about this a couple years ago, I was fascinated. And then I found out you could also have your own personal card of the year on top of that! Exploring the energy between the collective cards and your personal card is an enlightening exercise you can turn to throughout the year.
I’m personally not really feeling like setting goals or making a resolution right now, but I am interested in working with the themes of these cards. So if you’re struggling with the concept of a resolution, perhaps this will resonate more.
The 2025 Card of the Year: The Hermit
The card for 2025 is The Hermit, and this is calculated by adding up the numbers of the year: 2 + 0 + 2 + 5 = 9. In numerology, that means this year is a Universal Year 9, and this then corresponds to the ninth card in the Major Arcana: The Hermit.
The Hermit invites us to go within, to return to our inner wisdom and allow it to light our path forward. This is a year we honor and listen to ourselves, which requires the right balance of active reflection and deep rest.
This is also a year of study—of ourselves and any other concepts or ideas that interest us or ignite our internal fires! It is also important we share this knowledge with others, to help them on their individual journeys. Our wisdom is meant to be shared with the collective and for the greater benefit of the collective.
This card fits very well with a Soul Journaling practice. This is a great year to commit more to journaling or ANY form of self-study or self-inquiry you feel called to do. The important thing is that you remember to make the time and space to rest and reconnect with yourself, actively inviting in the wisdom of the soul.
What’s your experience with the Hermit card? Do the themes resonate with you, or do you find them tricky? I’d love to hear your impressions of it and your interpretations.
Additional Supporting Cards
The secondary card for the year is the Moon, which is card number 18 (1 + 8 = 9). This reinforces the need for deep personal reflection. It’s time to really look at ourselves in the mirror and acknowledge everything that is looking back at us, whether we feel it is positive or “negative.” It is all of a part of us.
Minor Arcana cards
We can’t forget the Minor Arcana! All the 9 cards of the various suits apply to this year as well: 9 of Cups, 9 of Pentacles, 9 of Swords, and 9 of Wands. Nines represent the wrap-up suit’s overall story, when you begin to pull things together and look at the bigger picture.
Your Personal Card
To calculate your personal card, add your month and day of birth to the year. So for me, for example, I add the month (March = 3) to the day (13) to the year (2025):
3 + 13 + 2025 = 2041
Then add those numbers together:
2 + 0 + 4 + 1 = 7
So for me, my card of the year is the 7th card, which is the Chariot. And my secondary card is the 16th card (1 + 6 = 7), The Tower. All 7 cards in the Minor Arcana will also apply and speak to the themes of my year.
Note: If you add your numbers up and the sum is over 21, add the two numbers together to reduce it down. Some schools of thought say a sum of 22 would be The Fool (card 0). And some schools of thought add up the numbers a little bit differently, with more or less the same results, so trust what you feel most drawn to.

I feel like I have been the Hermit for the past few years, and the moon is a card I feel deeply connected to also.
But it also feels like I have the energy around me to step out of this “phase”, using 2025 to tie up lose ends and make a few final goodbyes (to habits, people, places, thoughts etc…) and step out with a clean slate to create a whole new chapter. One where I know myself better than I ever have, and I’m more connect to my intuition that I ever believed was possible. ✨🌈💙🙏🏻
Wow this is fascinating! My number is 13 which seems to be Death—this could be another year of letting go?
