Marcy, I admire you for being so transparent about how you're recalibrating your business to fit your life as both are evolving. That takes courage and wisdom. Congratulations on all of these new developments!

Wow! That’s actually really messed up what Insight did. They basically tricked creators to pour all their time and energy into making them successful only to pull the rug out from underneath them. Goes to show that just because a business is ‘spiritual’ doesn’t mean they have good morals. Substack is difficult too in its own way, just because it requires such a large number of paid subscribers to generate meaningful income. I thought it would be a lot easier to get people to sign on, but I honestly find it easier to sell programs and coaching. I have a brand called Soul Scroll Journals so I always do a double take when your emails land in my inbox! Definitely a journey figuring out how to translate our gifts into sustainable income!

Yeah, it was really disappointing to see how Insight Timer handled this change. My case is more extreme than the majority of their teachers, since I had very high engagement but a small number of followers and plays. Most teachers aren't noticing much of a difference in their pay, but sadly I am. And the stuff the CEO has been sending out to try and defend himself has just been icky, and he assumes all of us can make up for what we were earning before by simply tweaking our strategy to focus on churning out more content that gets people to return to the app.

For sure, it's hard here on Substack too, and I don't expect it will replace what I earned on Insight--at least not any time soon. Eventually I will offer readings and more 1-to-1 stuff and have that be a bit more of a focus, but with the kiddos so young right now, I'm just going to slow down for a bit and focus on building community. It's all I really have the space/energy for at this time, so it all kind of works out in its own way!

And I love the sound of Soul Scroll Journals! I will be checking it out, so thank you so much for sharing!

Marcy this is so strange, I listened to a podcast yesterday about someone’s career and that sparked me to journal this morning (about 15 minutes before I read this) about how I’ve wanted to create a podcast for years.

I’ve written it down as one of my intentions to experiment with podcasting and recording audio this month and your prompts might be just the push I need.

Talk about divine timing.

The struggle of recording in a house with two small children is real though!!

That is so awesome, you should definitely start a podcast! I am happy to tell you which tools I use for recording, editing, etc if you need some help. Just let me know and send me a DM!

I absolutely understand how you feel. My podcast started so casually - I would record a stream of consciousness in the bath tub after sipping a shot of rum. And I've never kept to a regular schedule. It has been freeing to have a platform that I can use when I feel inspired to, but I post/share a podcast episode so infrequently that it really hasn't gained traction. Those who are meant to find you will find you. Those who no longer care probably aren't the ones who will give quality engagement anyways. And life happens to your audience too! Their engagement may wane and then come back with no impact from you, but all due to their personal journey in life. Finding your own way and doing work that brings you joy is the most important. After that, your audience can help you fine-tune the content! Best of luck!

Ha, I love that that’s how your podcast started! Absolutely, your true fans and supporters will be there whenever you happen to post. When I think about it, I’m not sitting here waiting for my favorite writers or podcasters to post. Whenever they do, I’m happy to read/listen, even if there’s months between them.
