You've probably heard the analogy about putting your own oxygen mask on first, before you can help others. It sounds powerful the first few times you hear it, right? But if you're like me, eventually it starts to lose its potency, and you slip back into your old habits--at least, until something exhausts you or knocks you down, reminding you that ignoring your own needs is unsustainable.
If you're stuck in this cycle, you're not alone! It's hard to change a belief that is so ingrained, that is reinforced by society in so many ways.
My wise friend Taa'Nesha White explained in her Sacred Shadow Masterclass that when you break promises or commitments to yourself, when you ignore your own desires and needs, you start to lose trust in YOU. And that trust has to be rebuilt, steadily, over time. It's something I'm personally working on, so if you feel called, I invite you to join me, starting with the journal prompts above.
