Do you let your ideas ruminate?
Let it Ruminate
Where is there currently too much "noise" in my life? Where could I benefit from pulling or stepping back?
How could some time to go within and ruminate help me shift my perspective of the outside world?
What would taking time to ruminate look like for me?
Have you ever found yourself getting hit over the head with the same message over and over again, in multiple ways? Lately, I've been getting the message that I need to spend more time within. I need to make more room for rumination, which is such a beautiful word that I have to thank my yoga mentor Amber Cook for presenting to me.
We often have an idea, goal, or vision for something, and we want to take action immediately to bring it to life. In our excitement, we want it to develop quickly...but when it seems to go too slow, we might start to feel a little frustrated, confused, insecure, or stuck, so we seek answers or assurance outside of us. This can lead to scrolling the internet and social media, either seeking guidance and knowledge or simply distraction from the discomfort of our stuckness. At that point, the feeling of overwhelm kicks in, as we soak in more information and perhaps find more ideas and tasks to add to our lists.
I'm in a wonderful program called "In Process," led by podcaster Katie Dalebout, and this past week she talked to us about overwhelm and how it can be a huge block to creativity. She recommended this week that we stop "taking in" when we get overwhelmed, remembering that we also need quiet time alone to create. Or, that time to let those ideas we have ruminate before we try to push them to completion.
Maybe if we allowed that time for rumination from the start, we could avoid that overwhelm phase altogether? And, as an added bonus, maybe taking the time to go within and let things develop naturally actually takes the same or even less time than that cycle of making all the goals and checklists, chasing after their completion, and spinning out a bit when we aren't making the quick progress we expected. I imagine that at the very least it will be a more peaceful process, regardless of how much time it takes. And that sounds quite lovely.
So, I'm giving it a try: I'm setting a new intention to let things ruminate. Want to join me? Click reply to this email and let me know how you're creating more space for rumination!

Sacred Journaling Circles include:
A group Tarot/Oracle card reading
Journal prompts (Anything you write is yours to process internally, and you are not required to share anything unless you feel called to.)
