What's the rush?
Where in my life am I in a hurry or rushing ahead? In what areas do I tend to feel like I'm always running out of time?
Why do I feel like I need to rush or hurry?
What would happen if I slowed down?
As we slide into the last months of 2021, I'm seeing all these messages about wrapping up the year strong: "It's the final three months of the year, let's make it matter!" and "Only three months left to accomplish your goals!" And of course, all of these are followed by a pitch for a product or service that will help make sure you do this. In my case, they'll be purchased and half-utilized by December, and my own guilt over not finishing "anything" will end up consuming the last weeks of my year.
But then I was listening to an audio meditation, part of the Connect to the Soul of Your Business course from Corin Hinderegger on Insight Timer, and I realized what I was doing to myself AND my business. I was doing the very thing that gave me anxiety as a child: I was acting as the adult parent or teacher, telling my business (and ultimately myself), to hurry the heck up! Shouldn't you be further along by now, passing all the tests and checking all the boxes? Why aren't you that child prodigy, that overnight success already? You're probably not going to make it moving at this pace! You're already behind!
Phew. I got anxiety just writing that.
When I ask myself what's the rush, I don't have a solid answer other than thinking that's what I'm supposed to do. But when I think about how it would feel to move slower...a huge wave of relief and even joy comes over me.
If I'm getting bombarded with these messages about the final three months of the year, I figure there's a good chance you are, too. Ask yourself where you might be rushing things. What's the reason? Could there be a better way to close out your year? Feel free to share with me the areas in which you'll be slowing it down. We can move slowly together!
Speaking of moving slowly...check out the Honor Your Pace Yoga & Journaling Series! All four classes are available now, including:
A gentle flow class to explore the quicker pace
A restorative class to explore the slower place
A combo class of flow & restorative to help you assess which pace is best for you in any given moment
A guided meditation to help you visualize moving at your ideal pace
Of course, all four include journal prompts to help you take this deeper.
I clearly created the class series I most needed at this time (funny how that happens!), and I hope you, too, will benefit from exploring your pace.
