Where is your story set?
A Change in Scenery
This week I'm enjoying some time in the desert, watching my sister's very sweet cat, Farley. Some other visitors have popped in too, including a little roadrunner who hops onto the patio furniture in the morning.
This new setting has altered my usual routine, but in a good way. I noticed I feel more positive here, like there's more potential and openness. At home, I was starting to feel stressed, even panicked at times, worried about what's next. It also doesn't help that we only recently moved to a new place, and things aren't yet organized in a way that makes me feel at ease. Everywhere I turn I'm reminded of more work I need to do, the things I need to put away. I feel torn between fixing up my space or building my business, as if only one of those things can happen, and I have to choose.
But coming here seems to have pushed me out of my funk. New ideas are coming through with greater clarity. And while I still have a lot to do back home, I trust it will be there when I get back, and I will perhaps even return with a new, better approach to clearing that space. For now, I can allow myself to play, explore, and create.
This had me thinking about what a difference the setting can make. In my creative writing days, we talked a lot about the importance of setting and scene in story. Just as it is important to shaping a story we read or watch, it is also important to our own personal stories. So this week I invite you to explore how the setting and scene impact you.
What setting or scenery helps you feel at ease?
Describe your current setting, including what brings you both comfort and discomfort. Are there any adjustments you could make?
Where in your life could you welcome a change in scenery, big or small?
Coming Up . . .
With me traveling and it being the height of summer, I've decided my next live classes will be in August. But I'm trying something new in August, and I need your help. I mentioned it last week: it's a 4-week Yoga & Journaling series that I'm calling an Embodied Reading.
I envision this being a small group of no more than 12. Each week, I'll tap into the energy of this group and pull a Tarot and/or Oracle card. These will be used to theme the class--from the journal prompts to the postures.
Right now, I would like to offer this for FREE to you, my email subscribers. I may expand it to others, but I want it to come to you first. In exchange, I ask for your feedback on the classes and whether or not they resonate with you.
I don't know the official date/time for these, as I want to poll the group. But even if you can't make it live, the recording will be available. If you're interested in joining, get your name on the waitlist so I can contact you!
Feel free to reach out with any questions or to share insights from your journaling! Hit reply on this email or DM me on Instagram (@themysticalfarrey).
With much love & gratitude,
Marcy
