How do we tend to ourselves?
Going Within & Getting Out
We're coming off a long summer, holiday weekend, and it's among one of the first we've had since things really started to open back up. Life might seem to be picking up speed as more opportunities to connect and get out there become available.
I've heard from many people that they're unsure of how to handle this time. If they feel excited about getting out, seeing people, and doing all the things, they feel guilty about the inner work they might not be doing as much of (creative work or simply time spent doing solitary activities). And then if they aren't feeling ready to jump out there, see lots of people, and socialize, they feel guilty or strange for wanting to keep their focus inward.
It can feel tricky to navigate this because there is no magic formula that works for everyone. We don't all need an exact 50/50 split between solitude and socializing, between getting out or going within. We all have our own ways of tending to ourselves and our needs, which means we each have our own balance that we need to strike.
We have to trust our ability to assess our own needs in any given moment, separate from what we (or others) think we should be doing. I created the below journal prompts to help you understand where you're at, and from there, ideally take action toward honoring what you need at this time, guilt-free!
What am I not getting enough of right now?
What do I want more of?
Where do (or could) these two lists overlap or intersect?
This exploration of our personal balance between getting out/going within is also the theme of my next live Yoga & Journaling class on Zoom this Wednesday, July 7. As an email subscriber, you get a discount!
Through some gentle flow, restorative postures, and journal prompts, we'll examine what we need to Replenish & Restore our bodies and minds as we move through our (possibly shortened) work week.
Class will be recorded for anyone who can't make it live. If you haven't taken class with me before and want to know what it's all about, visit my FAQ page or email me.
I'd also love to hear any insights you gain from your journaling. Hit reply on this email or DM me on Instagram (@themysticalfarrey)!
With much love & gratitude,
Marcy
